Testimonials
I was fortunate to be a student of Italian language with Adina Galan as my Professoressa for several years both at Piedmont Community College and as a private student. Prof. Galan is a warm, caring and fascinating teacher, with infinite patience and great knowledge of her subject. She takes great time to provide focused and individual instruction in a way that makes study of the Italian language and culture fascinating and satisfying. I recommend her as a teacher with highest enthusiasm.

Adina and I met for weekly Italian lessons for over 10 years. Being a language teacher, it was important for me to know the rules of grammar and syntax. Adina shines in this regard and was both patient and thorough in her explanations. Using a variety of methods and sources she is adept at focusing on your specific needs for learning Italian. Due pollici in su! (Two Thumbs Up!)

I have been fortunate to have Adina Galan teach me Italian in three different settings: as a college student, in small group conversations, and in private lessons. In each situation, Adina was an outstanding instructor: knowledgeable, thorough, organized. She was accessible to her students, challenging without being overwhelming. Flexible, and always patient, Adina demonstrated a sincere interest in each student. I highly recommend her to any student interested in learning Italian.

I have been taking Italian with Adina for a number of years, along with two friends. We have had several teachers over the years and it gets harder to find one who is willing to search out advanced materials, since the majority of language texts are for beginners. Adina has been a wonderful find for us. We have taken lessons from her for about 2 1/2 years, with a break for the pandemic, and she keeps the lessons fresh and varied. We are now having our lessons via ZOOM. She has gone out of her way to locate texts at our level- grammar, short stories, and dialogues. There is a nice mix of conversation and grammar work, and some writing. When she can’t find what she wants us to learn, she prints out lessons for us. Adina is a devoted and caring teacher. I always enjoy the classes and am motivated to do the homework.

Classes with Adina are a joint (ad)venture — yes, we study and practice grammar, but there’s so much more. In the context of reading aloud together and conversation, we learn usage and idiomatic expressions, all with laughter and encouragement. As someone who over-thinks and wants to “get it right,” I appreciate how Adina’s manner gives me the confidence to speak without worry. Inventive and willing to explore new approaches, she takes into account the interests and ideas of her students.

Adina Galan has been my Italian professor and tutor for several years. Her approach for teaching the Italian language is not only to speak the language, but to understand the fundamentals of the language – pronunciation, grammar, and the culture of Italy. This well-rounded approach ensures that the student will yearn to learn more and retain the knowledge. È un piacere essere uno studente della professoressa Galan!

Adina’s Italian classes offer many different benefits for anyone wanting to learn Italian. First, there is no pressure to make you nervous trying to speak, read aloud, or write. She is endlessly encouraging. Adina provides a wide variety of materials for reading, writing, and grammar exercises, and the discussions focus on our daily lives and experiences. After consulting with us, her students, she tailors the lessons and the readings to our needs, our skill levels, and our interests. And she always asks how useful her assignments have been for us. When we have writing assignments, she returns them promptly and privately so we know what we are doing wrong, and what we have done correctly. Adina’s class is always fun and low stress—like a meeting with friends.

Without a doubt, Prof.ssa Galan is the best language teacher I ever had. It is clear that she especially loves the Italian language, which perhaps accounts for the exceptional energy she puts into working with each individual student. In every class, she was always patient, kind, e molto simpatica. Above all, I was impressed with the wide range of materials she arranged for students to hear, read, and discuss (materials often drawn from Italian poetry, music, and literature). She’s the best!

I’ve taken many classes with Adina and can recommend her teaching wholeheartedly. Her classes are always enjoyable and give a thorough grounding in Italian language and culture; they include formal grammar, conversation, and readings from current and historical writings. Adina herself is patient, genial, and interested in all her students’ questions; she loves to explore new topics and to address individual concerns. Learning a new language can be daunting, but Adina makes you feel comfortable and makes it fun!
